Ester Ivakič

Director

Ester Ivakič is a Slovenian director and screenwriter, born in 1992 in Celje. She graduated in Digital Arts and Practices from the School of Arts in Nova Gorica and studied Film Directing at the Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film, and Television in Ljubljana.

Her student short film SRDOHRD (2016) received a Special Mention at the Slovenian Film Festival, while her experimental short MAGICAL CASTLE IS HERE NOW (2021) won Best Slovenian Film at the FeKK festival.

She has written, directed and edited several short films and music videos.

Her debut feature film, IDA WHO SANG SO BADLY EVEN THE DEAD ROSE UP AND JOINED HER IN SONG (2025), won the Ecumenical Jury Prize at Cottbus, the FIPRESCI Award at LIFFe, and the Special Jury Award at the Torino Film Festival.
