Georgi M. Unkovski
Director
Georgi Malinski Unkovski is a North Macedonian director, born in 1988 in New York and raised in North Macedonia. He holds a BFA in Fine Arts from the Rochester Institute of Technology / Eastman School of Photography, and an MA from the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU).
He blends a global worldview with Balkan authenticity. He brings aesthetic sensitivity and narrative discipline to his work. His films articulate the collision of culture and identity, combining humor and melancholy, tradition and modernity, through a deeply personal lens.
His short film STICKER (2019) premiered at Sundance in 2020 and won Best Narrative Short at the Brooklyn Film Festival.
His debut feature, DJ AHMET (2025), had its world premiere at Sundance, where it received the Audience Award in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition and a Special Jury Award for Creative Vision.
