Igor Bezinović
Director
Igor Bezinović is a Croatian director, born in 1983 in Rijeka. He graduated in Film Directing from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb and in Philosophy, Sociology, and Comparative Literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb.
His films include the documentaries THE BLOCKADE (2012) and VERUDA – A FILM ABOUT BOJAN (2015), both of which earned him the Oktavijan Award for Best Croatian Documentary. His debut feature film, A BRIEF EXCURSION (2017), premiered at Rotterdam and won the Grand Golden Arena for Best Film at the Pula Film Festival.
His documentary film FIUME O MORTE! (2024) premiered at Rotterdam, where it won the Tiger Award and the FIPRESCI Award, and later was screened at more than 35 international festivals, earning numerous awards. At the Pula Film Festival, it won six Golden Arena awards for directing, production, casting, set design, costume design, and makeup. The film received the European Film Academy Award for Best European Documentary and three Adriatic Film Awards for Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Film.
He has directed many short films of all shapes and sizes, which have been screened internationally at events including IFF Rotterdam, DOK Leipzig, IDFF Jihlava, CPH:DOX, Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean, Venice Biennale of Architecture, Museum of the Moving Image, and Guanajuato IFF.
