Frances McDormand

American actress Frances McDormand was born in 1957 in Gibson City, Illinois. She obtained a Master’s degree from the Yale School of Drama in 1982, and has since captivated a worldwide audience with roles in a wide variety of films, television streaming projects and theatre productions. She received the Tony Award®, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award for her performance in David Lindsay-Abaire’s Good People directed by Daniel Sullivan. Her other theatre credits include her Tony-nominated performance as Stella in A Streetcar Named Desire, a revival of The Country Girl, and Caryl Churchill’s Far Away at NY Theater Workshop. She has recently appeared on stage in the Berkeley Repertory Theater production of Macbeth. With her Hear /Say Productions company, McDormand produced Every Secret Thing, Olive Kitteridge (nominated for thirteen and awarded eight Emmys, including Outstanding Limited Series and Lead Actress in a Limited Series), and Nomadland (recipient of the Academy Award for Best Picture). Most currently, McDormand has been producing and starring in a film adaptation of the novel Women Talking, directed by Sarah Polley. McDormand recently starred as Lady Macbeth in The Tragedy of Macbeth, directed by Joel Coen and as well as in Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch. Additional film credits include her Academy Award winning performances in Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland, Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and Joel and Ethan Coen’s Fargo, with three additional Oscar nominations for Mississippi Burning¸ Almost Famous and North Country. McDormand has appeared in five additional collaborations with the Coen brothers: Hail, Caesar!, Burn After Reading, The Man Who Wasn’t There, Raising Arizona, and Blood Simple. Her television and streaming credits include The Good Old Boys, Crazy in Love, Hidden in America (Emmy Award nomination), and the voice of God in the adaptation of Good Omens.
