Maura Delpero
Director
Maura Delpero was born in Bolzano, educated in literature in Bologna and Paris, in cinema in Buenos Aires. Maura has explored the boundary between fiction and non-fiction with award-winning documentaries at the Turin Film Festival.
She has been selected in international laboratories such as the Berlinale Script Station, Locarno Film Academy, Torino Film Lab, and nominated for the David di Donatello and Nastri d’Argento awards.
With her first feature MATERNAL (2019), presented in Competition at the 72nd Locarno, she won more than 30 awards at over one hundred international festivals, obtaining the Kering Women in Motion Young Talent Award at the 73rd Cannes.
With her second feature VERMIGLIO (2024) she won the Silver Lion-Grand Jury Prize at the
81st Venice. The film subsequently won numerous other awards including the Gold Hugo, the highest recognition of the Chicago International Film Festival. It was chosen to represent Italy at the 2025 Oscars, entering the Shortlist for Best International Feature. It also received nominations for Best Film and Best Director at the European Film Awards and for Best Film at the Gotham Awards and the Golden Globes.
