Film Talk with Ruben Östlund and Short Film Screening

Award-winning director Ruben Östlund, a two-time Palme d’Or winner and one of the most prominent contemporary European filmmakers, returns to Slano this year, and this time he will present a selection of short films to the local audience.

The short film AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL SCENE NUMBER 6882 follows a group of friends watching an attempted jump from a bridge into water, while INCIDENT BY A BANK offers a witty and precisely choreographed reconstruction of an unsuccessful bank robbery, inspired by a real event from 2006. The film INCIDENT BY A BANK won the Golden Bear for Best Short Film at the Berlinale.

As selected by Östlund, the documentary DEATH OF A FANTASTIC MACHINE by Axel Danielson and Maximilien Van Aertryck will also be screened. The film traces the transformation of the camera, from the early days of photography to contemporary images generated by artificial intelligence.

In Slano, Ruben Östlund will also take part in a Film Talk with regional participants, where he will discuss his creative process, his early films, and his new feature THE ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM IS DOWN, which he wrote and directed, and which stars Keanu Reeves, Kirsten Dunst, and Daniel Brühl. The film is currently in post-production, and the Film Talk will be moderated by director Ognjen Glavonić.

The screening of short films selected by Ruben Östlund will take place on Wednesday, June 17, at the Villa Riva Open-Air Cinema in Slano, with free admission.
