Ula Pontikos BSC, a London-based cinematographer, is originally from the seaside town of Gdynia, Poland. From an early age, she had a passion for photography and cinema. Ula went on to graduate from the prestigious National Film and Television School in London. In 2022, NFTS awarded her the annual Sue Gibson BSC Award for her work on the TV series RUSSIAN DOLL.

In 2011 Ula shot her first feature, WEEKEND, and was chosen as a Breakthrough Talent of 2012 by the BBC Film. Since then, she has gone on to shoot films including LILTING, for which she won the 2014 Sundance World Cinema Cinematography Award, and FILM STARS DON’T DIE IN LIVERPOOL, nominated for three BAFTAs.

Her work on the latest season of RUSSIAN DOLL, which explored time travel as a story device into the 1940s, 1980s and present day, brought her nominations for both an Emmy and ASC Award. Ula has recently worked on THREE WOMEN for Showtime, based on Lisa Taddeo’s acclaimed novel.

She is a member of the BSC Board and the Executives Branch of the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences.
