Day 4 - Slano Film Days 2024

The fourth day of Slano Film Days 2024 began with a Film Talk for all participants with a multiple award-winning Swedish director Ruben Östlund. He spoke about his filmmaking process, focusing particularly on concept development and how real-life situations inspire his work. During this session, Östlund presented his short film INCIDENT BY A BANK, based on a real failed robbery he witnessed with his producer. Östlund discussed his upcoming projects, emphasizing the importance of different perspectives in the creative process.

Following Östlund’s Film Talk, Palestinian director Elia Suleiman talked with producer and Sarajevo Film Festival Director Jovan Marjanović. Suleiman recounted his beginnings as a self-taught filmmaker and how his horizons boardened after he moved to New York. He also spoke about the challenges he faced as a foreigner later in his career. Additionally, the participants had the opportunity to watch various clips from different moments in Suleiman's career.

The day continued with group-specific Film Talks. Director Ruben Östlund and producer Philippe Bober engaged with young directors, cinematographer Michael Seresin continued film talks with female cinematographers, and talent agent Jessica Kovacevic met with young actors and actresses.

In the garden of Vila Riva, the film MEMORY, starring Jessica Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard, was screened. Director Michel Franco introduced the film:

"I wish Jessica and Peter could be here with us tonight, but I will tell to them how beautiful this place is where our film is being screened. Peter won an award for this film in Venice, which makes me very proud. Tonight, you will be watching a film that is very special to me because it is an independent Mexican film, shot in New York with a lot of love and care."

After MEMORY, the second screening featured the film Y TU MAMÁ TAMBIÉN by Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuarón.
