Day 5 - Slano Film Days 2024

On the fifth day of Slano Film Days 2024, Finnish director Juho Kuosmanen talked with participants about the internal obstacles and insecurities that directors face daily. He also recalled the creative block he encountered after leaving the school system as a multi-award-winning student and entering a new environment with new projects.

Producer, director, and screenwriter Michel Franco, one of the few in the industry who can boast an average of one film per year, discussed his creative process in the final Film Talk in this year’s program. Having worked with both million-dollar budgets and on small independent projects, Franco spoke about the various constraints that come with different financial setups.

On the fifth day of Slano Film Days 2024, the jury prize winner from last year's Cannes Film Festival, the film FALLEN LEAVES, directed by the renowned Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki, was screened on the large outdoor screen in the garden of Villa Riva. In this film, Kaurismäki gathered people he loves and trusts, including his close collaborator and great friend, director Juho Kuosmanen, who played one of the roles and introduced the film screening in Slano.

The evening closed with a gathering of participants and guests in the Olive Garden of Villa Riva, a space whose intimate atmosphere provided the perfect backdrop for reflecting on the impressions of five days spent in the creative environment of Slano Film Days.
