Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard To Attend Slano Film Days

American film stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard are among this year’s guests at Slano Film Days. One of America’s most prominent actor-filmmaker couples, will present Gyllenhaal’s new film THE BRIDE! in Slano, in which Sarsgaard also appears. The film is an American Gothic romance inspired by the 1935 classic BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN. Written, directed, and produced by Gyllenhaal, the film stars Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Penélope Cruz, Annette Bening, and Jake Gyllenhaal.

As an actress, Gyllenhaal has left a significant mark on both independent and studio filmmaking over the past two decades with performances in films such as SECRETARY and SHERRYBABY, both of which earned her Golden Globe nominations, while her role in CRAZY HEART earned an Oscar nomination. She won a Golden Globe for her performance in the series HONORABLE WOMAN. Her directing career began with the highly acclaimed debut feature THE LOST DAUGHTER, which received three Oscar nominations and won numerous accolades, including three Independent Spirit Awards, four Gotham Awards, the Golden Osella at Venice, a Directors Guild of America Award, and a New York Film Critics Circle Award, among many others.

Peter Sarsgaard won over audiences and critics alike with his performance in BOYS DON’T CRY, while his role in SHATTERED GLASS earned him nominations for both a Golden Globe and an Independent Spirit Award. More recently, he received Emmy nominations for his performances in the series DOPESICK and PRESUMED INNOCENT. He appeared in THE LOST DAUGHTER and SEPTEMBER 5, both of which premiered at Venice, and received special recognition for his collaboration with director Michel Franco on MEMORY. In the film, he stars opposite Jessica Chastain in the leading role, for which he won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at Venice.

Director Michel Franco will moderate the Film Talk with Peter Sarsgaard in Slano, dedicated to his career and collaborations with some of the most important contemporary filmmakers and actors. The Film Talk with Maggie Gyllenhaal will be moderated by legendary cinematographer Michael Seresin, and it will focus on her transition from acting to directing, as well as how her relationship with actors has evolved through her experience behind the camera.
